About The ArtistNorman Rockwell Inspired Painting

My philosophy is that painting a portrait is a very personal experience, so I welcome the opportunity of getting to know one another while I craft your special commission. On this page, I have included some information that you can use to get to know a little about me.

I believe in living my life by the rules of Aristotle's Mean of Life and Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. So aside from my art, I try to keep the other areas of my life balanced, whether that be as an Athlete, Family Member, Friend or another kind of relationship. Below are three of the main areas of my life on which I concentrate.

Artist
From an early age, I showed signs that I had an artistic talent, and as I grew, my skills started to catch up to this talent. I have a fascination with people and animals. One of my artist role models is Norman Rockwell, not necessarily for his artistic technique, but for his ability to capture the spirit and innocence of his subjects. As I grow as an artist, I hope to emulate an aspect of this quality.

My main medium of art is watercolor. I've always thought of watercolor as something very loose, "pastel-y", and lacking the ability to capture much detail, but then one day I painted a picture for a girlfriend and I was amazed at my initial ability to do so much more with the medium then I thought I could. That painting is pictured above and as you can see, I was not lying about my admiration for Rockwell. My painting skills back then do not compare much to the ones I have today, but it's still a humble beginning.

Before I concentrated on my artwork full time, I worked in the web design industry. (Feel free to review my resume and my web, non-portrait-related accomplishments.)

This year I have entered two of these non-commissioned paintings into 3 prestigious competitions, all of which accepted my works. Go back to the main page to read more about this accomplishment.

Athlete
Although, I don't consider myself an athlete, (a jock); I've completed two marathons, to date. (Not bad for a non-athlete, huh?!) The first one was in Northern California, the Big Sur Marathon. As typical for that region, the race was very mountainous; probably not the best of marathons to select as my first. My second was here in New Jersey. That race was very flat, which was a good thing. For that race, I ran and fundraised on behalf of a charity. Whenever I can, I try to combine different aspects of my life together, and in this case, my physical condition with my artistic talent. The main fundraising endeavor for that charity was painting people's portraits.

Family Man

To learn more about my family, please visit their respective websites:

  • My Mother and Father - My father, Jack, doesn't use the computer too much. My mom, Irene, uses it a lot more, especially for genealogy research. Her section of the site should be helpful if you're into that.
  • My Brother and his family - (currently under construction) - My brother Jason's site is basically one big modern day wallet accordion. Except this wallet contains much more photos, which to boast of one's children. He takes and posts numerous digital photos of his kids, especially the two new arrivals. You gotta' love fathers and their pride for their children!
